Finally - the shield of mafia protection couldn't keep him from justice forever. Read an article about this in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks back. Article here too.
I do wonder when I frequently read comments like this how serious people are, or if its just said to express hatred. I personally am pleased that we live in a country with a civilised justice system, unlike so many other countries (including the USA). Radovan Karadžić will get a fair trial and then punished accordingly.

having sex with someone you're not married too is a bit of a different 'offense' to being responsible for the massacre of thousands of civilians
added to that - I don't believe they are being completely serious - still it would be no great shame if they did end his life in some way.

He wasn't on the run - many Serbs knew where he was. The trouble was that he is still immensely popular out there, and it would have been political (and possibly literal) suicide to arrest him. In effect, the EU has bribed the new government to give them the incentive to risk it.

A. He was never really that popular.
B. The reason he managed to stay under for so long was mafia protection
C. The reason the mafia are no longer protecting him is that he's not worth the risk any longer.
D. The EU had no involvement with any of it they'd just like the guy to be tried in an EU hearing and the Government is handing him over because they want to join europe and this would help their chances of being accepted.
and before you ask where I get this information I tell you right from the source the Country itself!
