If there is another thread I could not find it.

So Steam sent me a 20% off voucher for the game Raft. I had a look at a few vids, read reviews and generally did a bit of homework before pulling the trigger.

Has anybody else played this? Has anybody got on with it?

I love building, survival, open world games but this was a nightmare. The concept of finding myself on a raft and having to build to save myself sounded ok. However with only flotsam and jetsam and a massive shark eating my raft was more than I could cope with.... I have never refunded a game because of game play but I have this..

Purchased it for £15 as I had long had it on my wish list. Wouldn't recommend it for that price period - I just have a thing for the deep sea and sharks.

It's a good game but I'll be straight up clear about this - it took me approx 7hrs to max out the research tree and a further hour to finish the actual game, well the current endgame that is.

Your first few hours as with any survival game will be hectic as you juggle food/thirst whilst having your raft under attack every x amount of minutes. It is a blood rush but once you get into that 'comfort zone' or having enough resources, the limited scope of the current game can be seen.

The developer seems to be supporting it well so far as it had a good patch the day after release but I don't think there is a road map as such just yet.

Don't fall for the typical YT videos out there making out this is a content rammed game because Subnautica it isn't.

Edit - Raft Specs! : My raft is a 20x20 with a ring of netting around it. I've got 3x smelters, 2x advanced grills, an advanced water purifier and a stack load of resources now barring scrap which seems a headache to find.

Edit 2: Misread your post thinking you were looking to buy it. Oh well, hopefully this'll be of some use to others lol.

Noticed this has had an update and is on sale for just over £10 at the moment. Considering picking it up as it looks like something I'd enjoy.

It was some use to me! Interested if you (or anyone) have revisited more recently if they've added anything to it?

Chapter 2 was released last night.

Its quite simplistic and you can change settings so that shark just swims around and doesn't attack your raft. This is how I started so I could get used to it.
You can armour plate your raft eventually which stops it being eaten.

One thing to remember is that the world is centred on the raft, not the player. Its procedurally generated so if you get to an island but don't anchor your raft, it will float away. After a certain distance, the island you are on will disappear. You can't build another raft (although you can drown and respawn on your raft).

Its worth £10, good one for the kids to join in with.
You can host as a player, I thin the number of players is unlimited but performance will drop with more than 5 people from what I've read.

Interesting thanks. Sounds like things have improved since the early days then. I may well give it a go.

Do you just stay on the raft the entire time then? I thought part of it was exploring the islands as well.

There are small islands with a few resources on them. You can swim down to the seabed and gather more resources as its the only place you can get really get scrap as well as some other things like metal ore.
There are some larger islands that may reveal more of the story or have more items or plans. Some are random spawns with special items but nothing important to the story.

Just make sure you anchor your raft.

Looking forward to it.
We play 4 player and 3 of us harvest islands or do the quests while my missus stays on the raft.
The raft changes every time we return as she loves the building element of it.
I think we are currently sailing round in a combine harvester.
I believe an upright vacuum cleaner is next on the list.....
