For those with ATI cards where there is a lot of flickering throughout the game 'RAGE' (I am not talking about artifacts, rather the flickering problem)
Found this last night
1) install the latest ATI drivers. These are NOT picked up by the 'auto-update' feature for some reason .. do a manual search (through catalyst) and you'll find it.
2) Create a desktop shortcut to the game and rename it 'bioshock'. (Yes, believe it or not, you read that right). Start the game using this icon rather than from steam directly.
Hey presto .. no more flicking. (incidentally this is a similar fix to the same crysis 2 flickering issue, which is where I got my bizarre inspiration to rename to 'bioshock' from.)
About the first 'fix' I've ever personally managed to figure out rather than dragging off t'net!
