Interesting, I guess it all depends on how good the MW2 servers are, and how much ping actually occurs from listening servers. If it works well, and its not too laggy, I can see other developers like iD doing it as well.

Of course most PC gamers won't like it at first (I didn't), but if it works well, I have no problem with it.

That my opionion as well, if it works, if not it maybe hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

Its still going to kill the community feel you get playing with friends on the same server or playing clan matches and the like at lan parties.

But lets hope its not a complete failure like it could quite easily be, especially as p2p hosting up until now has not proved to give reliable, consistant connections with low pings.

Which is why I still dont get why there all of a sudden trying to push it, saw a clip recently that was filmed back in 2007 where one of the guys from IW was giving so much praise to the fact there was dedicated server support. Oh yeah, great pings, etc etc.

I think there all after this DLC though tbh, more so than piracy.

I don't think RAGE's multiplayer component has even been announced yet. People making a fuss over nothing, for all we know it could be the 4-player crap that was bundled with Doom 3.

Pure speculation but i'd say any multiplayer component would be co-op, and games like Borderlands have shown that this way works (excuse Gearbox's crappy netcode. We all know what Carmacks like!). Its only when you get in to competitive gaming that dedicated servers matter.

I don't know it's all going to come down to the IW.net thingy if it's got steam works that a pretty good start with groups and friends list all ready available, well i am assuming all my other steam friends will be visible in this version. That and the network code for the multiplayer if it's really good then it might just be manageable. You have to hope that the testes have check that it works on even poor ADSL connections.

So far many games using a p2p service (Demigod and Borderlands to name two) have had loads of problems on release and its often taken time to fix these issues. With MW2 being probably the biggest name to use this system, it'll be interesting to see how well it works as it will be heavily scrutinised in the media.

But therein lies a problem. In Borderlands you can get away will it getting laggy at times as your up against AI controlled mobs etc, but in a game like MW2 were you can't afford any lag or it may cost you a kill or get your killed its a much bigger problem.

Will be interesting to see if they can manage to get away with it on the PC platform, were reaction times count much more due to the use of a keyboard and mouse.

is this purely a cost saving exercise since the technology can be derived from the console mechanics or have developers suddenly developed a hatred of communities, competitive gaming clans and data centres

apart from anything a lot of this p2p stuff feels like a step back, with less control over the environment under which you would play/compete with others

I hate the direction of P2P gaming, one reason I don't really like xbox live, Near enough every game I've played that has been P2P has been a laggy mess.

Definitely a step backwards to say the least.
