Rage - worth finishing?

**** game, textures resemble N64 quality.

Depends - from a distance it looks really nice almost painted but close up yeah some of the textures are really ropey which sucks.

I wish they had gone for a hybrid system as some surfaces can really benefit from the megatexture type tech especially terrain but other stuff it really doesn't work well on and by doing so it would also update fast enough you wouldn't see the LOD popping in and out on the surfaces as you move about.

I never bothered finishing it either, thought it was a bit dull

The flow in regards to weapons and stuff really sucked the life out of it IMO - you'd get some really fun tools to do previous sections with - but only after you'd cleared most of those sections :| if you'd happen to have left a bit it could be fun watching stuff explode in inventive ways, etc. but those same tools and weapons would have no practical application to the gameplay ahead which didn't really make much sense :S

With some serious rejigging of the game I think they'd have had something really good.

I wish I hadn't finished it, the ending is god awful.

The game itself is also god awful so it makes sense.

It bugged me that some, if not all the enemies would disappear after dying / weapons not being able to be picked up and so on.

I've just started playing it again based on this thread and I agree, that's really annoying. Also, the texture pop in sucks.

Can't say I ever had much of an issue with texture pop in, though I was using an Nvidia card at the time which may have been the reason.

Due to this thread, I think I might install it again. It's about time I finally got around to playing the DLC. :D

I'm playing it maxed out on a 290 at 1080p and it holds a steady 60 fps (vsync on). However, I had to play around with config settings to allow for a larger cache to avoid texture pop. I haven't tried it without vsynch for any length of time as the screen tearing is the worst I've ever seen.

Exactly my thoughts, at the time I bought it because of all the hype a friend of mine made about it. IF I ever get time I might give it a second try, but until then I have quite a few games I haven't played yet.

I played it a fair bit, thinking to myself this is actually quite enjoyable - textures aside etc. Good mechainics, and shooting decent storyline and actually very good visuals when not close up on a texture.
Anyway, I was happy playing away. Got some decent kit and the story was building up nicely. Just about into the 3rd chapter of the game and have a big firefight with a few bigass grunts. Save game for tomorrows session.

Come tomorrow load game.
Kill the bigass grunts (saving heavykickass guns for later still)... aaaaand the game ends.
Thats it.
Game over.

around half way through completing the game was a real chore for me

in the end just put the game on easy and blasted through it half arsed

It was a decent game, I played it and finished it and was quite happy with it. I would play it if I hadn't played it but your different so you might not like it, only way to find out is to play it for yourself :)

Ok, it's finally finished installing.

I didn't think mods were likely due to the complexity of the engine :

Dunno if anything came of it but JC was going to release his own modded builds unofficially with higher res texture packs and prototyping other features that weren't really ready for general release.

EDIT: Apparently nothing ever came of it.
