Hi all...

1st of all as this is my 1st post on the forum, can I say that I've been reading the forums for quite some time now and all I can say is that they are awesome. Very very helpful and the people around here certainly know their stuff!!!

Any case, back to the reason for my post....

My relatively old pc died on me about 3 weeks ago. It wouldn't even post so after swapping out some memory modules etc, resetting the bios I thought that either the CPU or Mobo must have gone. Old system spec was as follows:

Athlon 64 4000+ (939)
Corsair 4 x 512MB DDR (2-2-2-5)
MSi K8N Diamond
MSi 7800 GTX 256 MB
Thermaltake Shark Case
2 x 200 GB Maxtor drivers
Watercooled (Thermaltake Big Water, with a few mods)
Windows XP Prof

Decided it was time for an upgrade and from reading the forums decided to get:

Abit IP-35 Pro
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GO SLACR
2 GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 1066 MHz (5-5-5-15)
500 GB Seagate
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit

To make a long story short, I decided to move away from watercooling and instead I'm using a Thermaltake BigTyp 120 VX CPU Cooler for cooling (as well as a couple of case fans). However, when I at last got the system working (first build resulted in me thinking it was the power supply and orderred a new one, which I now need to return unopened) it wouldn't display an image. Went out and bought an Asus 8800 GT 512 MB and this resolved the problem.
If it wasn't a Saturday and if I wasn't in such a hurry Ishould propably have got the 8800 GTX from OC, but I was a little fed up by this time!

Thus, my system is up and running and everything works, BUT my old Maxtors were set up as a RAID 0 array on the old mobo and obviously I can't access them from my new system to retrieve all my photo's, music, personal files, movies etc etc etc. I've tried to rebuild the old system, but again it wouldn't boot up, so I can only assume that there is indeed something faulty either with the mobo or cpu.

Could anyone please advise if there is any way I can recover the files and data from the two maxtors. If I try an pick up a 2nd hand mobo (same model as previous mobo) and chip on e-bay and install the two maxtors on this, could it work? Any software I can try? Help would be appreciated!

Last thing, I still need to flash my BIOS to update it, but with the current BIOS, CPU-Z indicates very odd speeds for my PC. (Mulitplier of 6, altough in BIOS it is 9). Is this a familiar problem?

i cant help with the raid problem, but the multiplier problem is just intel speedstep (google or search for more info) disable C1E and E1ST in the bios to turn if off
