RAID 0 - How much increase in speed

Your posts bore me to tears in this section as always, you still aint answering the OP.

I do not care what you would like to see or not, I cant raid now I have said TWICE as of HDD cage and 8800Ultra, so Google the info you need.

Your the one that is misinforming peeps not me, I have said what Raid0 will speed up and its true, you need go read again.

You obv no nothing if you dont know there is a rule of thumb of about 60% for Raid0, you be very lucky (prob impossible) to get a 100% gain with 2x HDD in Raid0.

My posts at least give them info about booting up/unraring/helping games load in some cases (although not as much a gain as years ago), your posts are always just crap towards others giving info.

Im going to add you to ignore as you have did this before and I have gave my input and anyone can Google and see the facts/numbers.

This thread has certainly opened my eyes lol.

From what your saying you got the same performance when comparing single array versus RAID-0 and the only gains were made by buying a quicker drive

You need to read what I said in Post #15 along with what I said in Post #30, taken together is what I have observed using RAID0 for a few years...:)

Oh dear, not only can you not debate something sensibly you block out what you don't want to hear and attack what you don't understand, despite it being the truth. Your not making yourself look any better. Nice irony in your post btw. ;)

I do find it amusing though that you "go by your own findings" and say that all the respected sites are telling lies, you sound just like those alternative therapy quacks that try to brainwash people into believing what they say. :D

Whatever your typing, if its towards me your wasting your time as I cant see it and no doubt it still is no help to the OP.

Your not fooling anyone.;)

Anyway, blue4ice if you want to see an improvement in gaming and in fact most general areas you need a drive with lower latency rather than linear throughput like raid0 offers, raptors or scsi drives will improve your performance as will decent solid state, or ramdisk if you can afford it. A raid1 array utilising split seeks would also help.

There you go helmutcheese :)

Quoted as it pretty much sums up what I was going to post. If you want to be taken seriously, grow up, learn that other people may have different opinions to you from time to time and rather replying to something you don't agree with using childish retorts, try using fact/logic (along with citation as necessary) and stop pulling statistics (or 'rules of thumb') from places where the sun don't shine.

Back on topic....

The point myself, and others have been trying to put accross is that there is performance to be gained from using RAID 0, but very little (or none) is to be had in areas where people on this forum are looking to gain performance in. The end result is that RAID 0 is suited to certain situations but ultimately is quite often a waste of money for many people; money that for example could go on a decent HSF which will enable high overclocks and therefore some real tangible increases in performance.

p.s. no one cares if you can RAID or not currently nor that you've said it twice. No one's being asked to rush off and spend hours running their own comprehensive tests here.

Even if Raid 0 only gave a very modest benefit in terms of speed, it surely gives a massive benefit in terms of cost per gigabyte! (eg. 2x500gb compared to 1TB). If the data is backed up/non critical, more performance for less price seems a no brainer; although there is slightly more heat and noise.

If you already have the drives yes it's a no-brainer. But in this case, he would be better off performance wise getting a raptor or similar. Not that the improvement would be huge either, but noticeable as has been demonstrated on many sites.

Imy, I set him to ignore for a reason so do not need you to show me his post, and its not just for this thread, Im sick of him overall.

I can be wrong and others can have opinions but the info I gave is easy to back up on Google and none of his info before that was any good to the OP.

You go and count how many Raid0 threads they are and how many end up with fights, the best thing is to TRY it for yourself.

And he will see a gain in Games loading on any HDD's be it not as much as it used to be years back or on Raptors.

Yes this is true under those conditions. By all means if you need more capacity then get another hard drive. But if the reason for buying a 2nd hard drive is purely for a performance increase, be sure to do your research as to whether it will have the desired effect with regards to your computer usage.

To people starting from scratch and looking for a hard drive solution, I usually recommend a single Raptor 74GB for os/games/applications, then additional high capacity drives for file storage. As well as of course enough external backup capacity to cover their essential data. Where uptime is a high priority I usually recommend 2 low capacity drives in RAID 1 (for main drive) and under certain conditions, RAID 5 for the file storage drives.

Usually the argument is that modern 7,200rpm drives are just as fast in many situations (such as file transfers). Indeed this is true, but for the gamer looking for an edge, the Raptor is consistently fast due to its quick seek times. For many years I was consistently first (sometimes by as much as half a minute) onto maps because of the Raptor. Admittedly after time the mainstream drives caught up somewhat and in my case, other components became limiting factors.

Another argument against the Raptor is its poor value for money with regards to storage capacity; to which I say, file storage isn't how it should be used. There is plenty of capacity for os/apps/games to be installed. This fits in fine with my usual recommendation of separating file storage from the main drive. Other peoples' arguments against the Raptor are still valid, but in the context I recommend them in I believe my arguments for using it are too.

Mtron do a 32GB SSD with sustained read speeds of 95MB+/sec, write speeds of 74MB+/sec, and a burst rate of 100MB+/sec.

Its already faster than the Raptor in many tests and not too far behind in the remainder.

Problem is, it costs around $1500!

Doesn't seem to matter which section I go into, there is a thread with HelmutCheese fighting with someone.

Dude, are you incapable of having a proper conversation. Its almsot as if you feel the world will explode unless everyone agrees with you.

Fair enough, make your point, but you get so wound up uptight. Chill man :)

If that right, you dont have your eyes open much if you only see me, so butt out.

Makes me laugh the ones with average of few 100's of posts over 1-2 years like to Police the forums.

Esp after debate was over, you come in and shoot your gob off.

You aint even added anything to topic so talk to the hand.

Listen, the convo was over, he comes in and talks crap to me with no on topic info.

Seems your sitting waiting to, I can sort that right now for both of you simply.

And how old I am has nothing to do with you.
