Behind you... Naked!
I am reinstalling my Opteron setup and I decided to plonk RAID back on for a change.

Now, I have hit a small snag???

The last time I installed XP onto it, I intergrated the correct Driver, ready for RAID, along with good Chipset and GFX Drivers for its 2 cards to SLI, and the Audio etc etc, all intergrated nice, like y'do!

I cannot find that disk now? - Hey, its been a while!!!

So, I did a basic get you going burn, with what I assumed was the correct RAID drivers, but, it failed to see any disk on the controler at all?

I have a couple of other goes but no, I just cannot get it to see the array?

I then grabbed a floppy drive and put the drivers onto that and again, even with the old F6 and I selected the drivers and no... Thats does not work either???

Im kind of stuck, I tried to D/L the correct drivers but no? I cannot find them

Anyone know where they are???

Im planning on putting XP64 back onto it but I also have an XP Home licence for it too, so at this time, it does not matter whether its 64 or 32 Bit, but Id really like to NOT go back to 32Bit.

I found that with my a8n-sli premuim it was down to which sata i conected the drives 2. I think i used the black connectors on the board and then enabled an option on the bios, i think

I have the NON-PREMIUM. The billy-lal el-cheapo special offer stock Mobo.

Its only got Black connections... Erm, I think?... Ill have to get back on that just in case.

---

I have just had a quick peek at images in Google, and the pics all show up 4 red and 4 black ports... Im bloody well sure mine does not have the 4 red ones????

Its too early to go trapesing around to look, but the BIOS also verifies this too!

I have 2 IDE Ports, so thats 4 IDE Devices and 4 SATA ports... 8 in total, which is correct.

Its got me wondering now.

But either way, I know that the 2 RAID Drives ( 2 x 80GB Hitachi SATA II ) are both connected to the bottom 2 SATA Ports ( Port 0 + 1 )

Oh here we are... This is exactly my board

So, no RED Ports on this one either.

there will probably be two drivers, and only one wil work. check th easus site, download both and stick them on a floppy and then try each one in turn?

Thats what I am doing, and I have done each in turn, but its not finding them???

The thing is, that for some annoying reason, this happens with a lot of setups, and, when I do find the drivers, I save them especially carefully, and I know for a fact taht they do work... I havbe gone and got the very same drivers, I have re-downloaded the exact drivers I have ( Date and Size match for example ) to the ones that worked before, but they still fail???

Its not like I have put the disks onto a different controler because I have not moved them al all...

Bloody annoying.

Ah, well. ok, its working now.

Erm, slight confession, but dont ask how, but I kept trying to install the drivers from the DS4 into the CD, and thats why it didnt see the array on *** controler???

Ooops!

No excuses.

I went back and went into the nVidia folder and then it kind of clicked... Hang on, I havent done these ones??? - Im also toying again with Vista64 on the DS4 you see, so I must have just got myself mixed up???

I wonder now, if there is an Emoticon up there for ******, cos I certainly need it right now!!!

Thanks a lot guys... Sometimes the solution is just too easy isnt it?

------

Ah, ok, here is one for you...

The disk I was installin to, the screen goes blank with a cursor at the top/left...

Botos into RAID and half installs fine though... The issue with the blank screen I am putting down to the fact that I have intergrated all the drivers for the A8N and its cards and that I did have this same issue previously ( The Mobo and the GFX driers and SLI ), so small irritant but easily avoidable, by takign one card out... But, me being me, Im not that easy am I?

So, I re-done a new install CD with only the RAID Drivers... The NForce and GeForce junk can go on seperate.

Now what is happening is that it does not understand the disk, although it sees the 160GB ( 2x80 Remember ) and it installs but then wont boot afterwards? - Now, I did that disk in Vista and so Im putting it down to that.

Now another issues that cropping up is that even though I have only setup the RAID to use SATA 0 and SATA 1 Disks and no other, is that my ZIP Drive ( Which is IDE ) is the one that keeps trying to boot, and so even though the BIOS boots from the RAID first, and the ZIP is clearly a seperate drive to the array, when it boots, its looking on the ZIP first so C: gets cocked about from the ZIP / RAID

Interesting sillyness, easily avoidable by taking the ZIP Drive off for a bit, but again, thats too easy!

Why dont I just use normal Disks like normal people eh?

No, Im giving up.

I can now boot off the HD just fine but Im constantly having BSODs and I cah get to the desktop in SAFEMODE, but no other way.

I have gone back to normal disks and one Card to get it all in.

The annoying thing now, is that even though I have deleted anything to do with the array, in the F10 bit of the controler and the BIOS itself, and the BIOS is now seeing 2 drives instead of the 1... When I try putting XP back on, it sees 2 partitions on one of the disks, and even though I deleted it I am still seeing a 10GB and a 64GB Unallocated right next to each other???

I know that RAID does domethign to the HDs themselves and so, I connected them to a seperate controler to kill the info off and if now fine, the Setup sees 2 disks with no partitions on, and so I am having yet another attempt at getting XP64 onto this PC... So far so good, but then that means nothing really until its in and has done any IDE / SATA Driver updates.
