RAID on Mac Pro

Just wondering if it is software based or implemented using a dedicated controller on the mobo?

If it is software does the system take much of a hit performance wise?

As far as I know it's software based.

5 secs on google reveal that RAID on the Mac Pro is handled in software, as has been the case with the PowerMacs.

The top two results for "mac pro raid" are pretty comprehensive
