background on this - i built my PC outside of my case since i wanted to mess around with overclocking and swap parts fairly often. i decided to put it in a case after i finished with the swapping etc.

it's now a year after this point  and it's still sat outside my case. the main thing i'm concerned about are my RAID-0 arrays. i have 2. to put everything in the case means i'd have to disconnect my sata cables and am worried about putting them in the wrong order.

would the raid controller be able to sort things out? e.g array 1 was on port 1+2 but say got reconnected on port 1+4 or something?

i think i've made it a bit easier now. have copied the data from the raided drives to my 1TB drive and deleted one raid array. only the boot one remains now. should just be able to unplug and reconnect as i want, re-create the arrays, ghost back my OS and tis sorted :)

it doesn't matter what port they get conected to as long as that port belongs to the same controller.
The drives are marked by the controller so it knows which drives belong to which array

well, that's what happened when i moved drives from one DFI board to another in my old 939 days. just heard that it doesnt always go that way is all.

will make a new image with acronis and have already done the deed re: the 2nd raid array. hopefully though, the main bootable one will be found like you said mick-1965 :)

If you are switching boards with different controllers then it may not always work. But, all you're doing is putting your board into a case after a long time testing :) So even if you plug them in to different ports you should be OK.
