I purchased 4 samsung 250gb HDD from overclockers store which arrived yesterday, and my plan was to set these up in raid 10. However, one of the HDD drives was faulty, meaning raid 10 was out the window. I have now set up windows vista on raid 0.

My intention is to go to raid 10, so here is my question: Can i use windows backup to create a back up of my now complete install, then re-setup raid and use the backup image? Or do I have to start from scratch again? If I want to use the image which windows makes, do i first need to install vista then use the backup?

Also I am running 4GB of ram, and I read somewhere that I should disable something to make vista make the most of the 4gb, is this true?

Its vista 64bit.

Many thanks for any help supplied!

Not familiar with the Vista backup, does it actually create a proper image or just copies of core files/settings? If it creates an image it should work okay, but I'd personally create an image with Acronis True Image to be sure. Whatever your array consists of Windows is presented the one drive, the controller and RAID levels are all invisible to Windows so you ought to be all right.

Any reason why you didn't go for the faster 320GB F1's?

I just went for the cheapest, which i think these were. dont really need that much storage.

it creates a VHD image i think...

thanks for the reply.

It'll be fine.

Make your backup, re-create the RAID, format, and you can choose from an option when you boot from the vista disc to load a backup you made onto a HD. Works fine, I've done it a few times :)
