Hello,

Basically i currently have 2x1TB dives with documents and media on that are Mirrored with RAID-1 to a 2TB Drive and tehres also an additional 1TB storeing all Client Computer backups that isnt mirrored. ALL drives are then included in the WHS Server backup to an external HDD.

Is there any need to have all data drive mirrored is they backup to an external drive? would it be better to break the mirrors and just have it all backed up to the external drive..

Thanks

Not essential, but Raid 1 will be providing a boost to read speeds which might be good if several clients are accessing/streaming media. Obviously it's acting as redundancy too so if a mirror fails you won't have to resort to a backup (unless they all fail at the same time which is unlikely).

I recently swapped my Client Backups drive from Raid 1 to Raid 0 because I needed the extra space, they're backed up externally like yours so it's no biggie if a drive fails.
