I have 16 drives in a R720, what is the best practice when it comes to setting up one big RAID10 vdisk.

Do I have 2 Disks per Span (8 spans) - This is default on the controller.
or
8 disks per span (2 spans)

Cheers

depends how you want it really all data in 2 places or multiple?
if this was for esxi i would do it as 2spans depending on how many vms.

At the moment all our VDI hosts are Raid6, they have been for a long time, so I'm configuring a test host using RAID10 to see if there's any real performance gain. Have about about 50 VM's per host (it runs out of memory before it runs out of cpu or IO)

Further reading would suggest I leave it as 2, as that's the norm for RAID10, i.e. stripped sets of mirrored disks.

I'll give it a go... cheers
