Hi Guys

Today we are launching the Raijintek Morpheus cooler.

It gives me great pleasure to announce this cooler as I actually worked on the development of this cooler with them.

Initial testing on my R9 290X was good but we had some fitment issues and at my request, cooling for the VRMs needed improvement.

a few days later, I had revised mounting hardware in my hands and a VRM cooler specific for my card.

This drastically reduced VRM temperatures and made the card very overclockable.

The fitment of the new mounting hardware is superb and it made fitting the cooler a breeze. The additional heatsinks for the RAM and VRMS were also easy to fit and stuck firmly enough for my liking.

my load temperatures went from 90'C under full load on stock cooling solution down to 55'C with the Morpheus using a pair of Corsair SP120 PWM fans.

Raijintek have also made it clear that they intend to support this cooler for upcoming VGA releases as best they can as well meaning you will have a future proof cooler.

Build quality and performance wise, this is a great addition for users looking for a performance increase with the benefits of a far quieter GPU.

Review/benchmark against the others and throw the Kraken in there for good measure (I've got the Xcellero & Kraken)

Please bear in mind that the cooler I had was a very early sample. and my modifications to the mounting hardware to get it to fit are not present on the final cooler.

the final cooler is much better looking and also the mount is easier to use.

apologies that my pictures are a grainy/night time/phone job but it was quick only to illustrate changes I felt were needed to Raijintek.

I dont have any reviews comparing to other coolers, as my cooler was an early test sample.

I can compare it to very high end watercooling though and it is only 9'c more.

Thanks for the info & pics Rich... I'm very tempted to do my own benching on my 7970... But it'd be an expensive experiment as my custom cooling is working a treat! Argh!

Will the price rise on these when you have them in?

sorry i cant offer more, i hadnt had my 290x's long when i was messing with the development sample.

plus i was working to strict time scales so had only three evenings to work on it and one of them was spent trying to make a mounting mechanism that worked out of random bits i had in my bits tray.


the price is the price though, i dont plan on repricing it for a bit.

How does this sound guys:

I have two Morpheus coolers. I will sell one for half price to someone willing to provide pictures, testing results and their honest impressions in this thread when they get it.

RJK/5UB can you confirm what was said above about who you have agreement with so removing stock cooler does not void warranty pls?

Warranty is at manufacturers discretion.

I have never had a single issue with any stock cooler removal. if you dont break anything then there shouldnt be an issue with warranty.

easiest thing to think is that if the cards have warranty stickers over screws, these tend to be manufacturers that are strict with warranty voiding products.

brands I have personally owned in the past and removed stock coolers without issue:

Sapphire
Gigabyte
Asus
EVGA
MSI
KFA2
HIS
VTX3D
XFX if you are very careful and reinstall the stock cooler perfectly.

essentially, if you have a sticker over any of the screws, then the company is generally a pain when it comes to stock cooler removal.

The truth is that most manufacturers now, especially ones that OCUK deal with are fine with cooler removal. They have to be in this day and age.

some may publicly go on record as being against it but as long as you dont send your card back for a warranty claim with it looking like a bag of smashed crabs then you will be fine.

Just to add, I've just recently received an ASUS 290 DirectCU II and it has a warranty sticker on one of the screws, so ASUS obviously aren't happy with it?

not aware of any warranty stickers on the DC2 but realistically, if you are buying a DC2 card then it already comes with an aftermarket cooling solution. pointless removing unless you are watercooling in which case, voiding warranties should be in your DNA

Same with MSI and a 290 I got, thing was too loud so returned it. Def had warranty sticker over screw!

this is the thing, the vast majority of cards I buy myself are reference designs. reference designs are generally never hindered by warranty stickers in awkward places.

as for MSI, they have an agreement in place with us where OcUK customers can remove stock coolers regardless of warranty stickers as long as they dont damage the card and any returns are returned in original condition.


RULES OF THUMB FOR VGA STOCK COOLER REMOVALS WITH OCUK:

• If your graphics card has a warranty sticker over the screws, contact us first to check where you stand before removing stock cooler as some brands are cool with it and others arent.
• if you dont have warranty stickers on your screws but are still unsure, please contact us anyway and we will be able to advise.
• we have special terms in place with a lot of VGA vendors that allow for cooler removal that other resellers don't have.
• on ANY brand where you remove the stock cooler, you must replace it perfectly before sending it back for a warranty claim
• ensure you use the correct tools and dont round off screws
• if you have purchased a card with warranty stickers on the PCB but not on the screws, ensure the sticker doesnt move from its original location
• if you plan on using a topdown aftermarket cooler such as the morpheus or MK26 - ensure you have taken every step to put heatsinks on all areas usually covered and cooled by the stock solution.

follow the steps above to ensure you are fully covered. we do the best we can to honour any reasonable warranty claim unless it is damaged due to misuse etc etc.
