Both for sale on steam, and I love Tycoon games, but it seems a little superfluous to get both of them so... which do I pick? Is 2 the best? I've not played wither of them, but loved TTDX.
Sid Meirs created Railroad Tycoon, railroads was a continuation of the series, but was over simplified in an attempt to get more people playing. As a result, anyone who enjoyed Railroad Tycoon found Railroads to be utterly ****, boring, and not worth the disk space used to install.
All the above are utterly wiped to the floor with Chris Sawyer's Transport Tycoon however, even though its as old as the hills, it is still the most playable of all the Tycoon games. What's more, with OpenTTD and its huge following and updating content, not only is it incredibly cheap, but maintained and natively supportable on Linux, Windows and Mac.
RR2 was a much more enjoyable game than 3, which had too much emphasis on the 'Tycoon'. It also has a lot more charm, with some lovely music and interesting scenarios [Presidential Whistlestop tour, anyone?].
The only problem I've found is the ultra-sensitive screen-edge scrolling due to today's mind-bogglingly fast CPUs. A CPU-slowing program should sort that out, though.
I found RT2 very hard and gave up on it, I love RT3 on the other hand, bought a used retail copy on steam and got all the massive charts and bookies with it. I love everything about that game.
Sid Meiers game is rubbish. While I love Civ4, he fails at tycoon type games.
Yeah, got and love TTD (And open TTD) But since these games were so cheap I figured I should grab one, just so I could say I've been there and done that
