Rain sensor in windscreen

Hi guys.

I'm in need of a quick advise. Does a 1998 VW Golf MK4 1.6SE have a rain sensor in the windscreen? Is there any way I can check that?
Cheers.

I have just booked a wind screen replacement and I was dumb struck when asked that question. The reason I'm asking is because i have noticed that the wipers do adjust their speed depending on the rain, without me touching anything. So how sure is that 99.9999% mate? I know it's a stupid situation, but I really never thought about that....
Cheers.

Thanks for that mate. Thinking about it now, the only way this matters prior to replacing the windscreen is that the rear view mirror is attached to it. But that's the same on all golf's, isn't it. I mean the way the morror is attached. Or I'm wrong?

EDIT: Forgot to mension this is a golf built in Germany. If that makes any difference...doubt it.

Do you have the auto dimming rear mirror? (Has a little light sensor at the bottom, and no lever to manually change it) AFAIK the two came together as one option. The other way to tell is if there is a piece of plastic running from where the mirror attaches to the windscreen to the top of the windscreen.
Not sure about the sensor in the mirror, but I'm pretty sure there is a bit of plastic cover that runs from the attachment point to the top of the windscreen.
EDIT: Thanks a lot mate.

You'll see it behind the rear view mirror. Some Mk5 SE's have it as standard. Mine didn't, however whenever you stopped in traffic, the wipers would stop wiping until you started off again so this might be confused with auto-wipers. They're probably speed sensitive too. The auto-wipers will only work when you set the wiper speed to the intermittent setting.

Auto-wipers suck anyway.
Yeah I guess the auto option does suck. Especially when stopped at traffic lights as you can see **** all. :)
