i was thinking of upgrading my RAM, i currently have 2 x 512mb Geil Value pc3200

was thinking of getting another dual channel set since its pretty cheap to take my total ram to 2gb

will i see much performance gain or is it just worth ditching the ram ive got now and getting 2 x 1gb??

yeah amd64 cant handle 4x512mb at 1t.

so its upto you if you wanna squeeeeez a few percent on a benchmark or 2fps out of a game then go for 2x1gb ;)

so will i not see any real performance gains with having 2gb dual channel as apposted to 1gb dual channel

my system

amd 64 3700 san diego
1gb dual geil value ram
saphire x1800xt 256mb
A8-N sli Premium

so aprt from cpu upgrade will ram make much of a difference??

Hi duncan,

If do go a head with 4 sticks you will only run at 2T, as for performance gain you will take a hit if not running at 1T. But some games & programs such as photoshop will like the extra memory.

It down to just money the cost of buying 2*1Gb memory sticks and selling on your 2* 512Mb against buying extra 2* 512Mb sticks

are you overclocking your AMD 64 3700 san diego?

Simon
