Here is my current configuration :

Slot 1: Corsair value 512mb pc3200 cas 2.5
Slot 2: Empty
Slot 3: Corsair value 512mb pc3200 cas 2.5
Slot 4: Empty

I have 'Corsair XMS 2gb (2x1gb) pc3200 cas2' which i need to install, should i install the new 1gb sticks into slots 2 and 4 (on dual channel) and keep the old ram where it is (3gb total) or should i take out the old ram out and replace it with the new ram?

Cheers
AMD :)

Ye it's basically for gaming, also gonna get that new X-Fi Gamer Soundcard :)

Thanks for the advice, i think the next time i need to upgrade it will be a new AM2 motherboard and CPU :)

BTW what happened to the 3500 XMS CAS2 2GB??? :( I was going to get that and then they dissappeared

Running 4 sticks will work but you will have to run at the speed of the slowest set. You will also have to run at 2T. Running 4 sticks is probably 5% slower at most

How do these beasts run as a 4 set? :D
No different from 2 sets accept for running command rate 2
I have had then up to 270Mhz im sure i can get more out of them when i learn this motherboard.

I'm not 100% sure myself, but with some AMDs the RAM gets slowed down if you fill up all four slots.
lucky that my AMD still runs ram at 1:1 with all 4 slots used.

It'll still run 1:1 but later core revisions default to a 2T command rate, which gives a performance hit. Also, running more than 2 slots full on the mobo can make oc'ing harder.

Early revison cores, before Venice and SD would run 1T command rate but slow done to 333Mhz instead of 400Mhz. :)
