Hi guys going to buy a conroe E6300 oem and the new intel p965 m-atx board but i want to know what the best ram to get would be for some noobish overcloking i only want 1gb as my current 2gb kit is overkill as over a 1gb never gets used

cheers

If you're building a gaming rig then as said, 2Gb will benefit you, now and in future.

You can't go wrong with a set of Geil PC6400, they fantastic clockers, and rival much more expensive RAM, but even if you're not clocking they're a bargain price, have good timings and a lifetime warranty.

well i already have most things like power supply dvdrw and graphics but mainly used for day to day stuff like browsing the internet and gaming like BF2 and farcry

edit: this is the baord im going to get

BF2 loves the extra gig of RAM if you have a reasonable GFX card, I really would encourage you to get the extra.

i have a 7900gt but i have checked that during start up my system only uses about 550mb so 1.5gb arnt being used and i cant see BF2 using that amount but if it will run better then i may consider it, i need some ram that doesnt need attention if you know what i mean, i want to raise the fsb without messing arounf with all the ram stuff as i havent a clue what it all does, a cheapish good 2gb kit if poss

BF2 will easily push your system over 1Gb, which is where the paging will start and you get stuttering. On 7900GT you'll definately benefit with 2gigs, I promise :)

If you want to double check this you can do the following:

To find your own memory usage, run your usual games and apps (BF2 would be a good start) for a bit then when you're done, exit back to windows, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL goto to performance and check the peak value in the commit charge box.

If that value is above 1,000,000 odd then you're managing to fill 1 gig and paging to disk.

Which mobo did u decide on? As for the RAM, normally i would say corsair everytime as they have a very good reputation, but that Geil stuff does look very good for the price, almost too good to be true which is why i am hesitant in getting some myself!

Just get the Geil, its cheaper and clocks better. Both the Geil and Corsair have lifetime warranties, so you don't have to worry about them going wrong :)
