Hi,

I think my crucial ballistix ddr 2 pc2-6400c2 is on its last legs. When I first overclocked my PC it was orthos prime stable for a few hours in test, but when I checked recently it failed after 1 minute! The ram had been running for months set to 1064mhz @ 5-5-5-15 (this is what originally passed orthos), so I re-set it to 711mhz @ 4-4-4-12 and ran the test again (only for 1 hour to quickly test stability) and it passed. Which means my ram that was stable for a few hours on orthos months ago now has to be run a lot slower.

I read on forums about the crucial ballistix ram problems when voltage is over 2.1v (something to do with micron ram chips or something?), so I assume this is whats slowly happening to mine :-(

I cant be bothered replacing with more of the same ram that will probably die again, so have decided to get a different type of ram to replace it with.

Can some of you advise me on which of these is the best...

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB)

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5 (2x1GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK

I would like to try and run one of the above at 890mhz 4-4-4-12 if I can get away with it.

So which ram is best for this challenge?

Also which of the above perfoms the best generally in benchmarks, im talking latencys etc.

I would prefer some that doesnt use the same chips as the cruial ballistix too, I dont want it to die again if I have to up the voltage to 2.2v etc to get it stable at 890mhz 4-4-4-12.

cheers

I may well go for the 4gigs, (although i dont really think I need more than 2gig's). Do the 2gb sticks overclock as well as the 1gb sticks?

Remember I want to try and get it running at 890mhz 4-4-4-12 (something I couldnt do stable with the crucial ballistix without silly volts).
