Ok so i sold my high end i7 setup around 8 months ago. Ive bought a pc again a am3 setup. Now when this thing comes to memory i have no idea. Its not as easy as picking memory out as it was on the i7. So im after some 1600MHz ram for this board :

http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=171&prod_no=1740

When i go onto the page were it tells me what ram it supports apparently nothing on overclockers match the memory codes on the support list of the board. Which is strange.

I know the board is not fussy with memory as its got 3GB G-Skill tri channel in it :s which i thought would never work although its running at single channel right now i wouldnt of thought the board would have seen it!

Ive had a browse on the dual channel PC3--12800 page and came accross this dominator ram on offer but in the description it says for i7 and i5 does that mean it won't be suitable for this board and the am3 as a lot of the memory on there say for i5/i7 :s

here is the memory :

Sorry for long post i tried to cutt it to the point but wanted to add as much info as possible.

Thanks

i5/i7 specified memory works equally well on AMD platform. I am using OCZ gold 12800 on am3 at 1667MHz, 6.66 x 250FSB. All DDR3 memory is compatible with either, just a marketing ploy.

Your 3GB is in single channel because AMD dual channel supports 4Gb or 8Gb.

Why won't you just take one stick out, and let that run 4gb in dual channel mode? Unless you're going to sell that triple set, it will save you some money.

its only got 3gb tri channel but its running in single channel mode as its 3gb and not matched pair dual channel sticks. (Im currently trying to sell the set)

So if i take a stick out that would be 2gb which would work in dual channel then but really wanting 4gb.

Im running 4gb corsair dominator thats states its for intel i5 and i7 in a phenomx6 setup with no problems. Its probably just a marketing deal with intel to make you choose corsair memory.
