I will be buying the Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard for a new build, and I am looking at the Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel + 3D Mark Vantage (PVV34G1600LLKB). How will I know what RAM is compatible? I have looked on ASUS and Patriots website but cant seem to see anything.

If anyone could find a list of supported RAM for that board, it would be very much appreciated!! :)

That board takes the newest ddr3 ram, which that patriot is.

Look for ddr3 or pc3 in the description.

I had a similar Q, and posted it to Patriot tech support- got this reply:
For socket AM3, the equivalent line would be PGS34G1600LLKA. You might be able to get away running PVV34G1600LLKB on the Asus Am3 board at spec, but you probably would need to increase the voltages and increase other settings such as trfc to 160ns or higher. You might have to ultimately reduce the timings and/or frequency.

Note the mobo is a M4A785TD-M evo- not sure if that makes a difference....
