RAM Backwards Compatibility

DDR/DDR2/DDR3 are different in physical shape and in voltage specifications..... even if you could physically force it into the slot you would either fry it or not even be able to get it to boot.

The interconnects on the slots are probably arranged differently as well.

Its a no hoper, unless you have one of the few mobos that have 2 different types of ram slots.

DDR is 184 pins (100pins -notch- 84pins)
DDR2/DDR2 is 240 pins

so you cant mix DDR and DDR2 that would damage either the slot or memory stick - it different numbers of pins.
