i think i've narrowed to problem down to my ram (random restart)
i have Corsair 6GB XMS3 rated at 1600mz 8-8-8-24 (1.65v) on the box

However when i manually set this in the bios or choose xmp
i get the random restart every so often during idling
For the last month or 2 i left the bios clocking settings all on auto which sets the memory to 1066mz 8-8-8-20 (1.5v) no random restart

If it is the memory causing this problem how would i identify this

thanks for your help

Do you think the random restarts are blue screens? My pc auto restarts if it bluescreens.

Run memtest on each stick, then together.

edit: Ive also got xms3 but mines rated at 9-9-9-24 1.65 1600mhz, and im getting it replaced due to either a faulty set or mobo incompatability

Only time I got blue screen was due to graphics card
Just random restart when idling only with ram set at box specs
I also noted that the same ram I bought is now rated on overclockers at 9-9-9-24 at 1.6-1.7v same as yours I think (instead of 8-8-8-24)
edit- don't know if its worth trying the higher latencies or setting the voltage to 1.7 do you think this is a bad idea
I googled memtest, and am i right in thinking if i did rma the ram this is what overclockers would use to test it
