RAM compatibility for sandy bridge

Hi guys,

I'm upgrading a mate's setup to sandybridge on a shoestring budget. I've acquired a 2500k and a p67 mobo.

I now need the RAM. However, i have a 2x2GB geil 2133MHz 1.65v kit that was bought with a first gen lynnfield i5 setup.

The simple question is, will that RAM run fine with the sandy setup? I don't want to clock it, i just want to get the system to boot to test the cpu + mobo while I source a 2x4GB kit.

Should there be any issues?

I don`t see why not.

Great, all that had me worried was the switch from 1.65 -> 1.5v but i'm sure lynnfield defaults to 1.5v anyways.

If i want to achieve an overclock around 4.5ghz do i need to hold a fast rated 2x4gb ram kit or can the ram speed / cpu speed be independently controlled?

i.e. would 1333MHz be fine?

The ram in my sig runs at [email protected] by default, but I have to manually set it or use XMP for it to run at 1600Mhz. It then uses 1.65v, which I then lower to 1.57v when I have OC`ed my Cpu.
Ram and Cpu are Oc`ed independently.
