Hi all.

Just got a new motherboard installed - its a Asus Z97 pro gamer on a 4690k.

I have been running 16gb of Kingston hyper x beast ram (khx24c11t3k2/8x) at 2400mhz (native) on my last mobo via XMP.

I have tried this on the new mobo but it wont boot at anything higher than 1600mhz :(

I tried it with 2x4GB however and that does run at 2400mhz

Other than selling the ram I can understand that I have a 2 options:
1) Run the full 16GB at 1600mhz
2) Run 8GB at 2400mhz

My system is mainly used for video / photo editing with some very occasional gaming - what do you guys think I would be better off doing?

BIOS is up to date guys.

I guess I will sell it on eventually, but in the meantime what am I best off doing, 8gb and fast or 16gb and slow? Cheers :)

Add more system agent/memory controller voltage.

More than 1.65v stu?

I have problems with 16GB (2x8) Hyper X savage 2400 on an Asus z77 gene. It didn't like running at 2400, I did get it stable after a BIOS reset, but then after messing with the CPU clocks I lost the stability again... in the end I left it at 1600mhz.

So I vote to run the full 16GB at 1600mhz. As far as I am aware 2400mhz doesn't make a difference in most cases.
I can understand that you would want to run it at the highest rated speed, but since you already have them and they work why waste the money?

Yeah I agree, can't be arsed to sell them right now. Will do eventually. So you reckon 16 over 8gb will be more benficial than the extra speed mate?

Cheers, I might look into that a bit more then.

But for now, the general consensus seems to suggest I will see more benefit from 16gb @1600mhz than I would 8gb @ 2400mhz?
