RAM DIMM Clip Broken...

Received a B-grade Z87X-OC that I'm more than happy with, however one of the RAM DIMM clips is broken. It is still hanging on (just about) and will "sit" in the closed position, however is providing no support whatsoever to the memory module. I've had it booted up, and the slot itself isn't damaged.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but just wanted to check my judgement isn't clouded: it's not worth returning over this given that I'm not going to get a replacement? As long as I check the RAM is seated fine if the PC ever gets moved it's not going to develop into a more serious issue down the line? (I'm planning on keeping the board for a good few years so selling on isn't an issue).

It should be absolutely fine as long as you don't go moving it about without reseating it, I've always found RAM is held pretty solidly just by the socket.

Yeah I was thinking about just finding a tiny bit of blu-tac just to give it enough purchase so I don't lose it, not sure I trust myself with superglue. I'll either end up sticking it shut, sticking it open, or managing to use the wrong type and melting it completely.

Cheers for the reassurance anyway, just checking I wasn't completely braindead.

blue tak wont hold

if you put a blob of superglue on the end of a matchstick and dab it onto the clip and glue it back you'll be fine

upto you tho

I'll see how I get on with it first, if it's just a case of re-seating when it's moved I'll just treat it gently. Could always jury-rig some sort of clamp across the other DIMMs to hold it in place if necessary.

Did you get it from the bgrade section lwst week? I thats when I got mine and had a few probs with it so far

Yeah, I found it after you posted the thread asking if B-grade is any good. Thought I'd nicked the board you had your eye on before I realised there were two of them, was feeling a bit guilty!

I'm not gonna be building mine up 'til next month because all my spare bits are at home, but I've had it powered on into BIOS, detected an HDD (should probably test a GFX card really). What trouble have you had with yours?

Hot glue mate, If you haven't got a gun, just get some glue sticks, cut the end to a point, and heat it with a lighter / cooker and just dab it on. It's great stuff it doesn't drip or run like super glue, and if you ever need to remove it you can just peel it off. I've used it for my NZXT light strip about 4 times, and it has never left a mark on any case, plus it is only about a pound for 15 sticks. If your really ocd about the colour you can buy it in all colour, even glitter if your heart desires

Cheers that sounds perfect, I'll give that a go if it gets any worse.

Got a B-grade OC board as well a few weeks before you guys. No issues or problems apart from needing an update to get Ethernet working.

Strong modeling putty like that blue and yellow stuff you mix might do the job in keeping it in place if superglue doesn't work.

I had some bent pins in the cpu socket, managed to get them straightened out tho. I also have damage to my 1st pcie slot, as tho someone has tried to ram a gfx card into it. On closer inspection it doesnt look as tho any pins inside are damaged tho I wont know until, I get a gfx card for it
