Hello!
I recently built a machine for my studio.
The work I do is all digital, using huge sample libraries for writing music for film/TV etc.
Now, due to the nature of my work and the software I use, RAM is very important hence why I made the move from a Mac Pro, to a custom PC, simply because the machine I built was 64GB RAM and whereas the Mac would have been £1000.00 plus more for a similar spec even with cheaper suppliers of RAM.
Anyway, my point is this, having 64GB RAM is great, and I will be using a huge portion of it depending on how big my sessions are, but I am sure I can spare say 5 - 10GB of it.
My, OS, samples, and session files are all saved to individual SATA3 SSD's which are quick enough for read times, so I am not looking to use a RAM disk for the audio based work - Although perhaps in the future I will build a server with stupid amounts of RAM to hold my entire set of samples on a RAM Disk!
My main question is this, what do you really benefit from having on a RAM disk? What program's do you save to it and use, just games etc?
Other than writing music and audio production, there is not a huge amount of other stuff I do with my machine really.
65% is music production
20% is general use (office, web etc)
10% is games (AC3/COH)
5% is Photoshop/Design
