Ram divider/overclocking question!

My FSB of my 6600 is 340, and my RAM divider is set at 2, giving the RAM speed 680MHZ. but it's rated for 800MHZ. If I set the divider to 2.5, that gives 850mhz, however the System fails to start wtih this setting.

How can I increase my RAM speed, or do I just have to leave it at 680mhz? I do not wish to overclock the chip any more.

Oh finally, if I set the RAM speed to auto, it sets it as 800. Can I leave it on auto with an o/clocked CPU?

Sorry to sound thick, the "8" in the equation, is that the figure that is currently "9" (default for the 6600) in my motherboard?! I think it's called the multiplier?!

Cob = LEGEND!!!

Ram is now bang on 800mhz and running 4,4,4,12 timings, and the 6600 is at 3.2gig on standard volts. It's just what I wanted :D thanks mate!

Cob, sorry have you got a link to a site with the orthos blend? I have downloaded but encountered probs. I'd like to try again. Muchos thankos !

Spoke too soon :( I tried a re-boot because usually if it doesn't like the setup, rather than re-boot, it will turn itself off, then try to power up 3 or 4 times before putting the FSB/RAM speed back to default.

It's just done this with the RAM at 800MHZ 4,4,4,12 + 3.2 gig cpu. It is definetly the RAM at fault because if I slacken the timings to 5,5,5,18 it runs fine, reboots no problem.

Is the geil 6400 not guaranteed to run 4,4,4,12 @ 800mhz??!

Last time I flashed the BIOS, windows wouldn't boot and I had to re-format. I've just spent 3 whole days re-installing stuff. Do I take the risk... :rolleyes:

Ah **** :( Just installed F7 using @BIOS, now the damn thing won't boot up at all :mad: Just removed the CMOS battery, but it looks like I've just ballsed this DS3 :rolleyes:

Phew, I'm back on my own PC! because the BIOS defaulted to the preset settings, the IDE/RAID wasn't changed, and it couldn't pick up my RAID disks. But I changed that and it's fine :D

so I'm now on F7 and it's running windows fine, which is good. Shall I give the 8 multi/400 fsb a go with 800/4,4,4,12 RAM again you reckon?

Yay! Cob = LEGEND (x2) it just boots up straight off with no hiccups. The RAM is kicking ass in sandra's benchies, and the CPU is fine at 3.2gig. Going to run Orthos Blend overnight, and if that's fine then I've achieved the PC I wanted :cool: Only took 2 months lol!

Wahey! Went from doom 'n' gloom (messed up BIOS, reformat, maybe dodgy RAM) to spot-on in just over 10 minutes. Oooh it's a rollercoaster ride with tweaking PC's :p
