Ram Divider Question..

Mate I moved to A64 a few days back and like you i didnt have a bloody clue, and now im running my venice at 2.7ghz :D
yes that is the ram timing, ddr400 being a 1:1 ratio, ddr333 being 5/6 and ddr266 being 2/3, I doubt your rams so bad you need to know the others :D But i'm sure you could figure them out urself.

Lol. Well.. i'm new to OC'ing and i dont have a clue where to start. so i was following a guide telling me to put my divider on 100mhz 1:2. Also, my HT onto 2x and cpu multi on 5x.. i dont have a clue im just following rough guides :/ :p

Guides are rubbish they go into way too much detail and confuse you.

Theres 5-6 things you need to know and thats it

Ram:

1, Divider - if you using pc3200 ram like me that doesnt overclock use a divider to run CPU high and Ram slower

2, Timings - What are your rams normal timings? Mine are 2/3/3/6 1T at 200 - I keep it at 2/3/3/6 1T - If I need to make the timings slower to get a higher FSB, I dont bother at that point I use a divider.

3, Ram voltage - Sometimes you can manage higher FSB with tight timings with extra ram voltage.

CPU:

1, CPU has to run at 1000 htt (ht or whatever it is).
So at default its at 200 right? Thats why you have a X5 there, say I overclock to 220, I need to move this to X4 as this is under the recommended 100 (4X220 being 880)
Say I run my fsb at 250 - 4X is perfect as 4x250 = 1000, anything above 250 I need 3X.

2, How CPU and ram relate on FSB.
If you use a divider of ddr400 - your ram and cpu will run at a ratio of 1:1 so whatever FSB your cpu is running at, your ram will run at that, so if your FSB is 230, your ram will be at that.
If you ram doesnt run at 230, use the divider and goto ddr333 - this will run it at a speed of 5/6 so effectively 191 (this still leaves anove ( for you to mess around with before you might need a divider again that is if your memory is crap like mine and cant go above 200).

3, CPU multiplier - if your running your cpu at 270X10 = 2700mhz, 270X9 = 2430mhz etc etc.

4, CPU Voltage - once your pc starts crashing up this 1 notch at a time and check stability of pc via prime95 or whatever, dont run above 1.6 volts for air cooling.

I know what I just said probably made no sense but im new to overclocking also and only started a few days ago.
these A64 chips are confusing as you not only have to worry about fsb of chip/ram, but this new thing where you have to keep it at under 1000

Add me to msn if your proper stuck like, i'll tell you exactly what to do step by step :D, check my trust.

Ok i'll add you :D

Basically what ive done is highered my FSB to the point where mt pc rebooted. Which is 324mhz, so if you minus that by 5mhz, that is the absolute maximum my fsb can go. without tweaking other settings. etc.
