RAM doesnt load up fully on first boot

A while ago I upgraded the RAM in my laptop, i have one 512 stick and one 256, when i first turn the laptop on it only uses the 256 stick however when i restart it it then boots up using both, when it first did this i sent the 512 stick back thinking it faulty but the replacement does the same, my laptop is an advent 7011.

Does anybody know why it would do this? I should be getting a new comp soon so im not too fussed about it if i have to keep booting it twice everytime I use it but would be nice to fix it.

Maybe you need to change something in the BIOS :confused:

Do you know what exactly I'd need to change? I looked around for BIOS updates but couldnt find what i needed apart from a company that wanted $50 for the update

Maybe it is a setting in the BIOS that you need to change?

Perhaps you need to tell the laptop it has 768Mb in the BIOS?
