I recently bought 2 modules of 1024MB PC3200 from a friend. They came without heatsinks so i was going to purchase 2 for them. When i consulted a friend he went the better option would be a RAM fan. Can anyone help me out and spec me up?

RAM does not benefit that much from cooling.

The RAM Fans you get are usually 40mm - Make a racket and spit out pitiful amounts of air.

If you want something though - Then get a couple of heatspreaders.
Stick them on and have some airflow going accross the top of your RAM from your heatsink or case fans.

Try to avoid fans less than 80mm in a PC case. :)

Main benefit of heatspreaders is you can just grab the ram rather than carefully lifting it by the edges. :p

I beg to differ, before I put a fan blowing over my RAM when playing games like NFS:MW the RAM would overheat and commence loud beeping from the MoBo (Note already have heatspreaders on the RAM)

That I would agree with I used a Zalman bracket and a 120mm Acousti

I really wouldn't advise that after intensive use, before I had a fan blowing over the RAM the RAM-sinks were very hot

if you have good airflow you shouldn't need ram fans,
your better off getting GOOD heatspreaders to be honest, or maybe arranging a 80-92-120mm fan above the ram blowing down.

99% of ram doesnt need heatspreaders. those that use headspreader usually use thermal tape to bond the ram to the spreader, so they arent that useful anyway are they?

if you need a fan to stop erroring then id suggest you either improve your cooling, or get that ram looked at because it really shouldn't be doing that.

I really depends on how much volts you pyt through the RAM, I had some OCZ Gold RAM andwas running them at 3.5v and they had to have a 80mm fan blowing on them :)
