I'm going to be upgrading from my Phenom 1090T system

to a 4790K with some new parts.

but I'm confused on the RAM

I've got installed 8GB (2*4GB) Corsair Vengeance I think it's 1600 CL9
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-300-CS

This is purely for gaming (Arma3, Elite Dangerous & DCS) so I could do with knowing if this is any good or should I upgrade it for some G.skill etc.?

not suer what this XMP stuff is and if I can use it
on the Gigabyte z97x-ud5h-bk-black-edition

Thanks

XMP is just a profile which has the overclocked RAM setting to obtain the higher speeds.

if the ram is working fine you could keep using it. However, the haswell processor do like faster RAM 2133-2666mhz stuff. Wont see a hugh difference in FPS more in benchmarking scores.

DDR3 prices are rising on a monthly basis so upgrading now will probably save you money in long term.

ultimately its a personal preference

ok, so just stick it in, set in BIOS? and forget about it

can you make any recommendations ? I need to buy it now for delivery tomorrow

will haswell suffer "lower" frames with 1600 instead of 2666 ?

Thanks man .. appreciate it

Hi, :D

Firstly, your corsair vengeance blue is fine. It will work and won't effect your gaming at all. Yes, haswell seems to respond better using faster ram but that's more enthusiast looking for every micro second of detail and benching. I would just use your current, unless you have good funds then by all means buy the hyperXbeast, just don't expect a massive difference.

I had that ram ever since the 2500K came out. But on my new build, see sig, my system kept on crashing.

Brought the TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB 2400 as they was on special. I just fancied a ram upgrade it system hasn't crashed since.
