Im thinking of buying a custom latop from Competitor and for ram would it be worth getting a dual channel set? I could buy 8gb single now then upgrade later?

Where does dual channel help?

Dual channel will double the bandwidth as it allows two RAM modules to work together, but you'll hardly notice the difference in real life usage.

8gb vs 16gb... depends on the games you're playing, 8gb is still good enough but newer games are more demanding. However, it will still be the CPU/GPU that will be the main bottleneck.

The laptop I have in mind has an i7 5700 CPU and 970m GPU.
