Hey guys~

Im building a new pc in a few weeks, Processor will be a q6600 and the motherboard is a Gigabyte X38 DS4.

The ram i had my eye on was 2x 2gig kit of the OCZ Reaper PC-8500 that runs at 1000mhz.
Is it worth getting this, it seems to be the best 4gig kit OC has on offer.
I do want 4 gig of ram in this pc, and id like to be reassured that the Q6600 will reach around 3.2ghz

thanks a bunch

I think most would recommend four sticks of Ballistix as the 4GB kits are poor clockers.

I'm afraid to say that I most definately would not recommend Ballistix-I have had this rig since August and am about to RMA for the 3rd time. Last 2 times I had not touched the clocks on them.

I'd normally have stood up for the Ballistix, but I don't know if they guarrantee D9GMH memory chips like they did to start with - same with more and more high-end RAM kits like the Kingston HyperX kits - they're no longer D9GKX :(

I'd have to recommend a manufacturer that will specifically state what memory chips you get with them - someone like Team or Cellshock. I don't know, but I think 4x1GB of D9 ram will clock better than most of this 2x2GB stuff, albeit with a little added voltage on the vMCH. I await someone proving me wrong though! :)

just had another look through and saw these

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)

at £70 for 2gig, they work out the same price as the other for 4gig , except these have better timings and higher clock and are 4x 1gig sticks.

That SLI stuff doesnt matter thuogh right as im gonna be going crossfire x

All Crucial-Lexar RAM is D9 - it's the three letters after that designate what else it is.

Ballistix is guaranteed to run at whatever it says on the packet - just like all the other RAM is, if you want a guaranteed level of performance, shell out a small amount extra and that buys you the absolute assurance it will run at that speed.

OcUK PC8500 will definitely run at 1066MHz for instance.
