I will be building a new PC when Raptor Lake is out. Last time I built one was 2013 and I am very out of the loop with what to get.
The choice is between 32GB and 64GB. I am thinking more along the lines of 64GB for my use cases. This is gaming but also work. Lots of compiling big custom C++ game engines (and Unreal in the future for other projects), packaging games (current project actually requires 64GB RAM!) Linux images and all sorts. This could take some time even on the 16 core threadripper PC I used to have at my last job.
I see that the 32GB kits tend to be faster than the 64GB ones. I thought maybe I can get 2xpacks of 32G RAM, for 64GB, but not sure if that is a bad idea. On the subject of speeds as well, does it make much difference?
I was looking at getting perhaps the Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x32GB DDR5 5600MHZ if I went for just the two stick solution. Pricey, but not too fussed about price if it makes a difference. If you're paying a premium for no reason though..then I would reconsider. I see the 32GB kits have a higher MHZ, but that is not out of the box and requires overclocking?
