Hello,

I'm slowly upgrading my PC and building a spare from the parts left over.

I'm keeping my ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO and going to upgrade the 1800+ to a 3700+

with this in mind what RAM would you recommend, is it worth paying the extra for the "tighter timings" (I really don't understand RAM!)

Cheapest

or

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/patr...dual-channel-kit-pvs416g360c7k-my-104-pa.html

or something different?

It's 3600 with a 1:1 Infinity Fabric, I've just bought 2 sets of the ram in your last link, great price for some great ram.

I'll be using Ryzen DRAM Calculator to run it at 3800MHz with low timings, if my CPU allows it, otherwise it'll run at 3600 with super low timings

both kits are very good, and at 3600mmhz both would have good timings.

Sorry to ask another question, but do either of you know what would be the real world difference between the cheap:

and the 8 Pack super stuff?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...4133mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-099-tg.html

Leaning towards the 8 Pack RAM, but just need a reason to spend the extra £40! Also noticed the 8 Pack 4133MHZ is currently cheaper than the 8 Pack 3600MHZ I take it I can easily underclock the 4133MHZ to 3600MHZ if I have any problems?
(will currently be paired with a 1800+, but planning on a 3700+ soon)

Cheers

Outside of benchmarks, probably not a great deal, but one thing I didn't mention was, if all you want is a straight forward plug and play then get RAM that's at 3600MHz, if you don't mind tuning and fiddling then get the higher spec memory and down clock with tighter timings etc.. as it won't just go in at 3600 without a little help :)

I personally swear by Samsung B-Die for Ryzen CPUs, every board and CPU I've used it with has just been plain sailing, never an issue.

If the budget is tight, then get the cheaper RAM, if the extra is doable without anyone having to miss a meal then personally I love the 8Pack RAM :)

If. You can get both kits to run at 3200/3600 then nothing.. But the Samsung B-die is the better ram and as more chance of running at max speed.

However if. Your just gaming tbf ever will feal fast and the system will work just fine

I run none B-die ram and it works just fine at 3200mhz and I hit the 100hz cap on my monitor

Thanks for the advice so far.

Still in two minds over this (mainly due to lack of knowledge on my part!) My MBoard will do 3600 O/C (std is 3200), with this in mind is there any point in spending more on anything above 3600mhz RAM?

I'm very tempted by the:

but not sure if I'll see any gains (happy to under-clock in the BIOS, but I'm clueless as to the "tighter timings" benefits?

Therefore not sure if the above will be better than the below at 3600mhz?

Current plan is a 3700+ but if I hold out long enough I may drop a 4700+ in it (obviously pure speculation at this time)

Cheers

The sweet spot for 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs is 3600MHz with the IF at 1:1 (so 1800MHz)

Don't even think about 3200 if you can easily afford 3600, unless you can get a set that you know will overclock to 3600, but it's not guaranteed, so some lottery in doing that!

Yeah, I'll absolutely get 3600 as a minimum, just not sure getting higher is worth it (the cheap RAM I linked is rated at 3600)

I'll get the 8 Pack on offer if I'll see any noticeable benefit (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...4133mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-099-tg.html) offer the https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...-3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-blac-my-0a3-tg.html or Viper etc

Cheers

If you just want to set xmp get the cheapest 3600 kit, if you enjoy manually tuning ram to squeeze every last drop of performance out then go with an 8 pack b-die kit.

Hello,

In splendid isolation I've done a little reading and am edging towards the same RAM as you, can I ask what "low timings" you easily achieved with the RAM?

Guess with my 1800+ I'll be looking at 3200MHz and 14 CL ball park...

Cheers all

Hey :)

I'm yet to tinker with the timings, but it's gone straight in at XMP of 4133MHz and C18, I couldn't believe it, Ryzen traditionally had issues with high speed RAM but it's working beautifully at the moment. Though my IF isn't at 1:1 so I'll likely try for 3800MHz C16 (C14 would be amazing but not sure that'll happen, we'll see?)

On your 1800X I think 3200C14 would be your limit, maybe C16 depending on your CPU limits?

Remember if you don't mind tinkering then the ram in your link would be great, if not then get a 3600C16 set and just run XMP?
