Hi all

sorry its another ryzen ram thread, I am still not 100% sure after some reading so though i just ask here.

I currently have a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming and need some ram for this. 16GB preferably, RGB and samsung B die. I really want something i can take over to a new motherboard the ASUS Crossair X470 VII please. Also i will at some point migrate to a threadripper machine but I will wait for the new stuff next year.

I was going to get these, which are B dies correct? But they are not RGB but if i have to I don't mind, would rather something works well and no RBG than the other way around.

are these B die?
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/g.sk...channel-kit-f4-4000c18d-16gtzr-my-10q-gs.html

I like these but I dont know if these are B die and little on the expensive side to be honest.

forgot to mention I have a Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU cooler, which i think would have clearance issues on some ram. Have no clue here, but was thinking if something does not fit, could i just rotate the heatsink to face upwards and that will create clearance over the RAM clots??

any help would be appreciated

thanks all

None of the ram you've chosen above is a good fit for Ryzen.

Ryzen's achilles heel at the moment is ram compatibility and speed and you definitely wont be running anything over 3600Mhz which is very rare in it's self.

The most recommended ram on the forums for Ryzen is this.

That's not to say it's foolproof. Some people me included cant get it run at rated speed and this is with a 2700x, but most people can.

These are your alternative. They wont run anywhere near 4000Mhz on Ryzen. But the 3200Mhz kit has tighter timings.

Exactly what @opethdisciple said above.

thanks for the recommendations i knew i got it all wrong lol

a quick question of you don't mind please, you recommended this ram as alternative which i belive is samsung B die

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...4000mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-098-tg.html

but if i am not wrong are these are also samsung B die, that's what my research indicates anyway, if yes would these also not work?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/g.sk...channel-kit-f4-4000c18d-16gtzr-my-10q-gs.html

I dont mind running them at slower speeds of 3000 or 3200mhz. I wanted RBG if possible if not them i will just get the ram you recommended.

thanks for all the help

The only other alternative I'd consider is the G.SKILL Flare X Series as it's tested for compatibility with Ryzen.

The other one you've linked if you look at the compatibility does not list Ryzen.

They are also very expensive.

I know the question wasn't aimed at me, but no i wouldn't recommend any of those 2 options. Would i be right in guessing you have very little experience of overclocking ram ? Because if you havn't the only way you will get either of those 2 ram kits past 2133Mhz @1.2v is to overclock them. Neither of the XMP profiles will boot on an 350,370 or a 470.
Just get the set that opethdisciple recommended https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08l-tg.html
They will boot from XMP at 3200, then you can clock them higher from that point.

I really don't know why peeps still keep asking the same question over and over again. It's plain to see in other threads what the answer is.

Thanks a lot, my mistake was assuming that anything B die will work on Ryzen, it would seen not so.

Thanks for the input and taking time to answer but initially i wanted RGB ram and was not sure, everyone recommended ryzen ram are just standard ram without RGB and i read quite a few of these new ryzen ram request threads. When looking online those G skill RGB ram are B die, which i assumed would work as all over the internet everyone is raving about B die, but it seems this is not so.

I have not overclocked any of my computers since athlon xp 2200+ days, never really played games so overclocking was never an issue, always preferred stability over maximum speed. But now I want to build a water cooling showcase pc with LOTS of overclocking so I don't mind tinkering with some ram setting if required.

I think you are completely misunderstanding me. B-die is B-die and of course all B-die works fine with Ryzen. What you do have to understand though is that on Ryzen 1st gen mobo's, even getting B-die to boot at 3600Mhz is a very big ask and even then all the correct ram timings would have to be in your bios first.
The kits you have listed are all 4000Mhz kits. Because they are pre-programed at 4000Mhz XMP's, just loading DOHCP on your AB350 simply will not get the rig to boot to windows.
What would get you to windows is to just defaults, that way you get to windows at 2133Mhz with 1.2v from the ram's SPD. From that point on you will need Taiphoon Burner and Ryzen dram Calculator to get the best out of your ram.

Forget the bling bling of ram. Just go with something that will work.

You can add leds elsewhere in your build but for Ryzen I'd forsake the leds for stability.

This is the ram you want.

ok gents, firstly thanks for all the help and support.

I think, I understand what you are both trying to say

B die ram generally has better compatability with Ryzen cpu/mobo than other types of ram but that also depends on the speeds running at as well as individual components cability to run it.

To be safe with very little problem in terms of fiddling with ram setting and resets ect ect
get these

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08l-tg.html

But if i am willing to take a risk and fiddle with things then get one of those 4000mhz ram.

I do have another question, if the ram is listed in the motherboard QVL does that mean i can buy the ram?
because the QVL for the Taichi x470 lists the bling bling ram i wanted lol I may dith the AB350 and get Taichi board.

http://asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470 Taichi/index.us.asp#MemoryPR

DDR4 G.Skill 3066 3066 8GB F4-4000C18D-16GTZR SS 2 v

if not then i will just buy the ram you guys recommended.

thanks

just a quick question regarding the Taiphoon Burner and Ryzen Dram Calculator

wanted to know the general procedure here for running out of spec ram.

1) so basically clear the setting in bios or load safe setting for 2133mhz
2) get into windows, run Dram Calculator
3) use setting in Dram calculator in the main bios
4) use these suggesting setting as a starting point to find stable ram setting
5) once stable ram setting found, use Taiphoon Burner to burn the new setting to ram

is this correct?

There is no step 5! You dont write anything to your RAM!

Taiphoon Burner is just used to read your ram timings and import them into the ram calculator, which will give you some guideline settings to try.

Oh god................................me thinks i might actually spend some time and explain how to use Taiphoon Burner along with Dram Calculator. It's fairly obvious from all the threads on here that most peeps have no idea how to use them at all.
Let's just hope when i do someone makes it a "Sticky"..................................then we won't have all these types of threads.

Well what's it's saying is the bling bling ram on the QVL list will run at 3066Mhz. It's 4000Mhz ram.....

Even more confusing tho is the fact it says 8Gb rather than 16Gb.

I'd stay clear.
