hi looking to get either a Asus P9X79 PRO Intel X79 or a ud3 mb

can anyone recomend ram for these please ?

Vdroop issues on giga x79 boards has been sorted in the latest beta bios so it can be recommended for purchase again :D

As for ram it depends on budget but you'd probably manage 2000mhz+ out of sammy greens, try avoid vengeance it can be hit and miss on x79.

budget is about £100. was looking at gskill ripjaw seem to have good reviews, although I've always used geil or patriot in the past but seen patriot bring slated on here recently

g.skill on x79 is supposed to be top notch, though if moneys tight the 4x2gb 2400mhz kit in my Sig is now only £60 from ocuk :)

Avoid the UD3, someone correct me if I am wrong but I have heard bad stories about the UD3 and vdroop.

Apparently this is fixed now. i have yet to test Giga X79 but Pigi and others have said its improved dramatically.

GSKILL is excellent on this Format as is the Corsair Dominator Range. Sammy greens are a winner too.

with regards to the gskill ram. there is ripjawx at 1600mhz & tridentx at 2400mhz - would I notice much differance between the two ??

Get a quad channel X79 designed kit. Trident X are Z77 primarily. Ripjawz is the X79 line.

ok thanks there are several different speed ram modules for ripjaw also in the real world you notice much differance ?

This is my first post, but I have been through the same process. Over Christmas I built a new PC with i3930K, Asus X79 Sabertooth, G.Skill RipJawsZ 32GB (8x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Quad Channel Kit, all bought from OC UK. The cooler is a Noctua NH-D14-2011 and there is plenty of clearance. Very straightforward, no problems encountered.

Nothing, but X79s are picky about RAM, especially since the memory controller is on the CPU. The more expensive 3960 - now 3970, seem to do better than the 3930 in that respect. You don't build an X79 for gaming/general use.
