Ram for X99 build

Thanks I missed the obvious "SODIMM" written in the heading :p
Those kits look decent, I suppose the memory bandwidth from quad channel is worth it but I wondered if it would make OCing the CPU harder.

32GB is overkill in your mind then?

Hmm 32GB possibly is but IU guess it depends if your seriously into CAD etc and the programs benefit in anyway from having access to more RAM.

Overclocking the CPU should be any harder, more sticks 8 vs 4 could mean you need to tweak a voltage or two.

But if the board is good and the BIOS is good it should be plug+play, set XMP and go.

Thanks I have an X99M Gaming 5 board, not sure how good that is but it only has 4 slots.
Yeh it would just be light CAD work so maybe 16GB is enough, 32GB just seems more future proof (or overkill).

I'm liking the look of that Kingston Fury kit though, that is plainly based on the looks of it as they all look to perform similarly.

32GB is overkill for most CAD programs unless you're running FEA simulations, which I wouldn't class as "light CAD work".

16GB will be fine, but do get a quad-channel kit. As stulid says, Kingston is good stuff and you rarely ever get compatibility issues with it.
