RAM heatsinks, worth it?

Are RAM heatsinks worth buying? (I'm on about those ones that slip over the RAM). Just thinking about FSB overclocking / tweaking CAS latencies :)

Ive read a couple of articles on this; and the general concensus seems to be that they are a medium for companies to brandish their logoes on the side of high performance RAM. The thermal gains are little on them.

thats what Ive read anyway...

at most couple mhz is ment to be the effect of them. from what i have read. really not worth it unless u dying to get the max out of ure ram in which case u would have got nicer stuff with ram sinks.

I recently got some TwinMos ram from the MM which has heatsinks. I personaly am not in a great favor of these purely because if I touch the ram stick after the PC has been under stress for a while, they feel very hot to the touch, while the ram sticks which aren't covered with such a heat spreader, feel a lot cooler.

So to me personaly having such "heatsinks" is just a faster way of destroying your ram rather than improving performance on them, unless ofcourse you have a 120mm fan right above the ram cooling them maybe ;\

Just have a silent 80mm/92mm case fan blowing over the motherboard (ram/chipset) and it will keep it a lot cooler than putting on ram sinks (with no direct airflow).

Well i guess the one with the heat spreader would be hotter cause it would be taking more heat away?

Mortah you should have done a search, ive seen exactly the same post as this like three times already this month with the same debated outcome.

My advice is if u like the way they look then dont worry about it.

Well my system is watercooled, when up at 3.2GHz i used to get the occasional BSOD, more so when the cooling fans were down low, got some thermaltake ram sinks (the ones with the flashy lights  ) as i touched the Ram one day and it was very hot, now no BSOD's so yes i think they help, very least they do is stop hotspots.
Just my 2p's worth
