Hi guys

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R mobo rev 1.1

I currently have 2gb of Geil DDR2 PC6400 800mhz running on it.

I want to change to 8gb of ram and Gigabytes website says my board will take DDR2 up to 1066mhz.

I've looked at these

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

or these

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-192-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

My question is will my board take 8gb of either of those rams and will it run at 1066mhz or will it have to run at 800mhz?

Thx in advance

Eagle

Either set will be fine mate, i would go for the kingston memory myself :)

Great ram :D

only thing is, your motherboard may detect the ram as default 800MHz, (a lot of boards do, might not be the case with you though ) all you have to do in that case is manually set the voltage and frequency in the bios.

Either set will be fine although I lean towards the Kingston out of personal preference.

Do you need the 8gig? If not 4gig is usually enough for most ppls needs for general computing - unless you're doing heavy video editing or have need for multiple apps/pages to be open at the same time etc. Otherwise you'll see very limited benefit for having 8gig - although flipping between screens/windows is, apparently, a lot faster. The jump from 2gig to 4gig will be the biggest difference - the jump from 4gig to 8gig would be negligible...

Some boards can be a bit temperamental about having all their DIMM slots filled so it may require a bit of tweaking to get the system stable - usually the NB has to be upped a fraction to compensate. This may not prove to be the case but don't be phased too much if it doesn't work straight away with all 4 sticks installed.

Additional: do you have a 64bit OS?

I'm currently only running XP 32 bit but am considering 64 bit.

Main use for this rig is gaming with the likes of AA3 & ARMA 2 being the most recent.

You may be right that the difference between 4 and 8 is negligable but at current prices why not :)

at the price why not.? you have 32bit, which wont use 4gig never mind 8 lol

if your getting 4/8gig just install W7 :D

I did say that I'm considering 64 bit, as I am aware that 32 bit wont even use 4 gig.

But that is neither here nor there as my original question was will it work in my board or wont it.
