Asus Z68V-PRO GEN3

Unfortunately after installing my new Corsair A50 Cooler it covers the first two RAM slots. Not bothered about having 16gb, so I removed two modules to drop back down to 8gb.

Only niggle is that I'm sure having both sticks in B1/B2 means I'm in single channel rather than dual channel

Can someone confirm this (as I might be wrong on the Z68) and will I really loose that much performance?

Yes, for dual channel mode you need the modules in either A1 and B1 or A2 and B2.

You can confirm this by going into memory tab of CPU-Z.

Are you able to mount the fan on the A50 so that it goes over the RAM heastinks?

Looking at this performance comparison of different channel configurations with a Sandy Bridge E system I think you will be mostly fine in single channel mode if you can't make the RAM fit.
