Ram increase possible?

I currently have a pair of Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX in my system and have been offered a pair of Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX by a friend.

Would it be possible to use these extra sticks to give me an extra 1 or 2gb and would there be any performance loss as I would be using more sticks?

My motherboard is an Abit IP35-pro btw.

What does the memory compatibility table in your motherboard manual say?

Filling all slots will put more strain on the NB so it depends on whether you are overclocking or not.
