Just building a system for my son - LGA 1150 however the cooler (Tranquillo REV2) is fouling the ram (Kingston Hyper X Beast) - I can fit either the cooler OR the ram but not BOTH lol

Is it better to change the cooler or can I get lower profile ram to fit ?

Your current RAM modules are 46.41mm high - you can get smaller modules e.g.

are only 30.7mm high, but whether that is short enough that the cooler will clear I don't you would know unless you can do some measuring.

Alternatively, can you not fit the cooler another way round - the instructions suggest it can mount in all 4 directions, so might be worth trying that.

Thanks Armageus - very helpful !

If I turn the cooler around, it fouls the GFX card slot- seems I can only use it one way in the mobo I am using. However the low profile ram will sort it.

Does OcUk still offer free delivery for forum members do you know?

That ram has quite high heat spreaders on it, personally I feel heat sinks on ram are more for show than anything really functional.

Could you remove or bend the fins on the part that's fouling?

Or if they'll exchange it, just exchange it for something with a less ridiculous heat spreader.

Edit.. but yes still free delivery on stuff like that, not sure how that works with a return/exchange though, you might have to cover postage for that.

isn't it better to change the cheaper component, since RAM is expensive, coolers are not

Normally I would agree but I really want this cooler to work as it is almost silent and keeps temps very cool. New ram has been fitted and clears the cooler wonderfully now - will be selling the old ram so not too much cost really
