Ram Issue should I get more?

Well currently I have 4gb's of fairly decent Ram and using Vista 64 with a Quad 9450 Intel overclocked to 3.6 Ghz.

It was a pre-built system from overclockers and I tried to pose the question about getting some extra ram.

I have started to notice a slow down in programs, especially since I seem to run multiple programs at once and sometimes 'two games' and what seems to be happening as more demand is put on the game sometimes 'crashes'. I noticed with my G15 Keyboard that Ram usage jumps to 90% before a crash so what do you think? do I need more ram? and if so how would it affect my overclock?

Sadly the guy in Technical Support advised me to 'open the case' to find out what Ram I purchased before ordering (since pre-builts they dont have a record?). So before I go digging open the case to find out the Ram whats your views?

System Spec's

Quad 9450 Intel Overclocked to 3.6ghz on Air.
4gb DDR2 8500 operating at 1066mhz.
4870X2 ATI
Windows Vista 64

If your programs are slowing down now when they weren't before then I would defrag your harddisk, virus and spyware check your system. Failing to see any improvement then next i'd assume your operating system is just bloated and I would reinstall it. If that doesn't return performance back to normal then i'd then look at your power supply or maybe taking off your overclock on the cpu and seeing what happens then.
You might need to be a bit more specific on the multiple programs you have running, what games etc.

Hiya,

Thank you kindly for replying.

I've been runing Aion/Lord of the Rings online at the same time I generally try to keep tabs on my 'guild' so alt tab between them but notice a significant increase in resources now with Aion (used to do it with WoW/LOTRO) and dont worry only in low GFX level when in two games.

I currently have a 1 TB HD with 300 GB spare so it could be that as well? I was just wondering you see since 4GB of Ram for all that going on seems a bit too low? I also regularly defrag and Virus scan my PC anyway.

Are you mainly getting the problem now just with the two games? What's your system like running multiple apps that aren't games? Also tabbing out of games can be a flaky experience anyway (depending on the game).
300gb is loads don't worry about that.

I do notice some slow down when running multiple applications I.e Windows Media Player together with a game + Word/Excel Documents. It is the general process tho I've noticed as 'games' getting more demanding on the Ram so the usage pumps up but it came to ahead with this combo that got me 'thinking'..

Re-did virus scan nothing and re-defrag HD :) no improvements the only other thing I can think of is Bio's Updates which I have not done since I purchased the PC but I realise these are 'risky' thus the ram option was what I thought of next.

Thought i'd post my CPUZ stuff may help :)

why are you running two games?

Ah good question. Pretty simple its to keep tabs :). Generally I play MMO's and a clan leader so I keep tabs on sections call it a 'manager's post'. I generally play in one but have another open. The key is in the past its been pretty fine and dandy but as more applications seem to demand more resources thats what spurred me up to pose the question!. Usually play in Windowed anyway.

Btw I just noticed one thing from my CPUZ its reporting it has an 8400 Ram but running at 6400? check the part number is this right? or something worrying :) I noticed this when I first purchased the PC but only just questioning it now!
