TwinX 4GB TWIN2X4096-6400C5 £35.64

Now £74.34

Guess I bought at the right time.

Why is this? I remember inflated RAM prices before, it was something like the FAB in China burned down or something silly.

Are DDR2 sticks more expensive as its aging technology?

How about CPU prices? Are the e8400 more expensive now than before? Why would people upgrade whole systems if the memory is way more expensive than when they bought last?

I bought the real dinky toy e2160 which overclocked from 1.8Ghz to 3Ghz but having played America's Army 3, I feel I need a CPU power boost. Even AA 2.85 is half way to the refresh rate limit of 60.

OK, ram prices, in the past 2 factors brought the prices down, 1, the exchange rate, everything globally is brought and sold in US dollars, for a while there we could get $2 or more for each of our pounds, so everything was cheaper. 2, there was a massive over supply of DDR2 modules, can't remember why but it meant supply outstripped demand and hence prices tumbled.
At the moment DDR2 and DDR3 prices are about the same, this is because fabs are in the process of swapping production from DDR2 to DDr3, in the not to distant future DDr3 prices will drop below that of DDR2 as supply goes the opposite direction.

Besides all that I just read this today http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1562467/dram-prices-drop-december

As for CPU prices, I guess its all about the exchange rate, we get 25% less dollars for each pound than a year or more back , so expect everything to cost 25% more.

in sep 2008 of another site i bought

antec 850w psu (the one with two yellow lines on it) for 89 i saw it at a later date for 149 i think its the true power

antec 1200 i bought for 109 i saw it later for 149 but its come down a bit now i think

e8400 i got for 119 ive seen it for 130

corsair value 4gb in march i got £32 now they have all gone up!!

Well the same thing happened to DDR3, as Trifid said. DDR3 triple channel kits are about twice as expensive as they were in June - that can't be to do with exchange rate.

I bought two packs of Patriot 1600 Mhz triple channel kits a while back at £85 each.

I listed them both on ebay for £125, and one has already sold. If the other one sells for that much too, I got a free upgrade to the Geil 2133 Mhz sticks :)
