Hi, I was wondering, When I check my BIOS,RAMis registered at 2048, and I have 2gb RAM. But, does that still mean my RAM is working fully?
I mean to say, could it register but actually be faulty? I ask because when I set hunkmegs in CoD:UO, I tried to do over 1gb, and I got an error stating that I was out of memory :S Is there a way, or piece of software to check if I've got faulty or not working RAM.
I just bought it like a week ago. GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Geil_DDR2_Memory.html

To my knowledge, I put in RAM like it showed for 'dual-channel memory population rules' (DIMM1 and DIMM3. DIMM 2 and 4 empty)

I Have MSI K9N Platinum mobo: nForce 570 SLI chipset. (AM2)

Thanks :)

I'm finding it hard to understand but 2048MB is is infact 2GB's of ram. To test if your ram is faulty use Memtest86+

yes I know, but, what I'm asking is, although I can see via bios, and start/control panel, printers and other hardware/system, that I got 2gb ram, does that mean it's OK? And the ram isn't faulty?. that's what I mean. I looked at memtest86+, but it looks tricky to do, is it?
thanks

RAM can read the correct size but still be faulty, it takes a fairly major problem for it to read the wrong size.

Memtest86 or memtest86+ will do a thorough scan of the memory and who up many problems that wouldn't otherwise be obvious (odd crashes in windows etc).

ok, I'll try it tomorrow. Could you/anyone offer some advice about using memtest86? Do's and Don'ts? Could it damage my pc also? xp or bios?
Also, Would it be possible to use my 2 year old DDR ram from old pc in new one? I have 2x512mb sticks. I guess I can't, but thought I'd ask

go to www.ultimatebootcd.com

once you created the disc, boot into bios and make you dvd/cd drive first boot device, then from that run memtest (F1 I think main board tests), then press F5 and that will test the ram -id never done it before and it was pretty straightforward
