Ram Problem with G4 Power Book Please Help

Hi All,

I don't know very much about mac's, but a friend of mine asked me to upgrade his RAM, so as you do i went and bought some RAM and bang! does not work :eek:

It is a Power Book G4 500mhz
currently with 512mb SDRAM 144pin

I bought 1Gb (2x512mb SDRAM 144pin SO DIMM 133mhz 3.3v)

I installed it and when i powered it up all i got was a beep and the standby light flashing, so i took them out and tried them one at a time, the same happened.

I then put the original RAM back in and it powered up fine PHEW!!!!

So my question is do you need specific RAM for a MAC and if so which

You need specific RAM iirc for that old beast. 500mhz, I would shove it in the bin and start again!

Email me and I will send you a link to a site that does it. Not cheap though!

Hi iSam, they worked a treat, the G4 has now got loads more memory and is working quicker
