I'm planning to add either 2GB or 4GB to my current machine but am a bit stuck on which ram to buy. I've got a Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 with 2GB of OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC, Theres one side of me that just wants to buy exactly the same ram and just have 4GB (and four identical ram sticks and be done) but then the other side wants to have 6GB, which should be suffice me for some time. I'm confused as to which ram to buy though, The OCZ Gold Edition 4GB kit looks good but i'm just a bit miffed about the voltage and timings etc as their far diffrent from the current ram i have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

As long as its the 64 bit version you should be fine with win 7.

As for the RAM options I would suggest neither of your options.

Four sticks of RAM puts a lot of stress on your northbridge and will affect the stability of your overclock. If you are not overclocking then 4 should not be too bad, may have to drop down the speed a bit.

As for 6GB with 2 x 1GB + 2x 2GB I would not recommend this and i'm not sure it will even work. Generally you should have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM in dual channel mode each with the same speed and size.

I would recommend getting this RAM and selling your old stuff.

2x2 and 2x1 modals would work, but i wouldn't advise it if your overclocking too.

sell what you have and get this Kingston as advised above.
you will hardly use 4gig let alone 6 :p

Many thanks, i've ordered the kingston set. When you say you wouldn't advise overclocking does this only apply to overclocking the ram? or could i just overclock the cpu?
